Brownville's Methodist Church is the oldest Methodist Church in Nebraska still holding regular services.  Built in 1858 for the Congregationalists under the leadership of Rev. T. W. Tipton, it was sold to the Methodists in 1861.

The structure also served as the Brownville College with the Rev. Tipton serving as the College President.  Cost of education at the Brownville College was $5 per series with each lecture costing about 12.5 cents.
